Our History

Chimbua Women Communication started in 2018 as an informal networking of senior women journalists, passionate about uplifting other women through journalistic works. Their initial plan was to achieve two goals; One; to use their positions to influence their editorial boards to give more space to stories about women and on issues around them. Two; to build the capacity of young female journalists through mentorship and coaching so that they can have the capacity to produce comprehensive, high quality and marketable news content.

In 2019, it was registered and put in place administrative systems including leadership. It also expanded its boundaries of who can join to include professionals from other disciplines. In order to have a database of experts, it created a pool of professionals consisting all genders. This was triggered by the need to work with other professionals who have also a vision for a more inclusive media industry.

To enhance their mission of promoting quality, deeper and inclusive reporting, they transcended from their original idea of information sharing to cover other areas including; training, women empowerment, advocacy, community engagement, researching, writing and publication as well as networking where we link junior journalists with experienced journalists/editors/retired media experts the purpose being to facilitate learning, sharing of knowledge, experiences and best practices.
