Changing Narrative Reporting , a project implemented by Chimbua Communication under Social Impact Reporting Initiative, SIRI, emerges as a project with high effectiveness, relevancy, efficiency and of great impact participants. The project focused on building of professional capacity of 15 women journalists who were retrenched as a result of COVID-19 so that they can be in a position to produce high quality, comprehensive and well researched stories or programmes, contents which will be marketable to any mainstream media outlet in the country.

There are considerable achievements in all project`s activities. Through this project, these women journalists who were previously considered to be irrelevant have demonstrated high potential with some of them producing front page stories, comprehensive and well researched articles while others through their stories sponsored under the project their works have been recognized in front of their colleagues, something which boosted their self-confidence and increased their work morale

These journalists were attached to 5 experienced journalists/editors who provided to them professional guidance through mentorship as they worked on two comprehensive stories assigned to them as part of the project implementation. Engaged supported journalists from pitching story idea to polishing the final media content ready for publication, broadcast of shared into multi-media platforms

Chimbua Communication has managed to build a network linking junior female journalists with senior editors/retired media experts.

Production of 30 news content

One of the project`s outcomes was that at the completion, each participant produce two comprehensive media content. It is encouraging to note that all mentees met the target and some of them proudly revealed that they will continue to produce works with similar

standards even after the completion of project. These stories were published in newspapers, radio, television and multi-media platforms.

An increased professional capacity, quality and quantity of works

All mentees indicated during feedback meeting that professional guidance they received through mentorship and sending them to the field where they were required to produce two comprehensive stories each, helped them to improve the way they do things in terms of quality and quantity.
